 A Fine History

1919 - 1981

  • Westralian Farmers Co-operative opens Insurance Department to cater for the insurance needs of Western Australia's farming community.
  • A small number of representatives cover the whole of the agricultural area of WA. 

1982

  • The Insurance Department becomes a separate company - Wesfarmers Insurance Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wesfarmers Limited.

1982

  • Wesfarmers Insurance acquires the country business of Royal Insurance in Western Australia.

1985

  • Wesfarmers Insurance Limited opens its first interstate branches in South Australia.

1988

  • Through an agreement with the Victorian Producers' Co-operative Company Ltd (VPC), Wesfarmers Insurance expands into Victoria and southern New South Wales.

1991

  • The business of Federation Insurance is acquired from the Switzerland & General Insurance Company, giving Wesfarmers Insurance a national presence.

1993

  • The company is renamed Wesfarmers Federation Insurance Limited to reflect the various elements of its history.

1994

  • With branches in all states of Australia and the ACT, Wesfarmers Federation Insurance Limited celebrates 75 years of providing excellence in insurance to the rural, commercial and domestic markets.

2001

  • Network of more than 80 WFI branches operating across the Nation.

2003

  • Wesfarmers Limited acquires the Lumley General Insurance operations in Australia and New Zealand and the Wesfarmers Insurance Division is formed.
  • WFI wins "Best Regional Insurer" for the year.

2004

  • WFI wins "Best Regional Insurer" for second consecutive year.

2005

  • WFI wins "Best Regional Insurer" for third consecutive year.

2006

  • WFI wins "Best Regional Insurer" for fourth consecutive year.

2007

  • WFI is a leading general insurer for farmers and small business owners, with over 150 Area Managers operating across Australia supported by strategically located Client Service and Claims teams.
  • WFI wins "Best Regional Insurer" for fifth consecutive year.
