WFI reminder - change your smoke alarm battery
"Don't be a fool! Change your smoke alarm battery April 1st" is an annual campaign run by WA Fire, Emergency and Services Authority (FESA), to remind householders to change the battery in their smoke alarms. WFI would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of smoke alarms.
Fires are a significant cause of death, injury and property damage. As many fires are difficult to prevent, there is a need for safety devices such as smoke alarms to alert occupants and to enable them to escape from the fire. The warning provided by smoke alarms has been responsible for saving thousands of lives and homes throughout the world.
Queensland Fire and Rescue Services reports that "the risk of death from fire in a home is up to three times higher in homes without smoke alarms"*.
Early detection of fires also leads to quicker action to control them and subsequently to a reduction in damage and injury.
If you haven't got a smoke alarm in your house, it is important you take action to install one (or more, depending on the size of your house) today. It could save the life of you and your loved ones.
