Bushfire Safety & Survival Tip #4

Survival kit

Ensure you have a 'survival kit' pre-prepared. The kit should include:

  • mop
  • portable radio
  • towels
  • first aid kit
  • knapsack spray
  • protective clothing for all members  of the family
  • extinguisher
  • ladder, shovel and hoses
  • buckets
  • woollen blankets
  • goggles and gloves
  • first aid kit
  • drinking water
  • batteries
  • torch
  • safe storage box containing important documents, photos, valuable and medication.
  • reliable means of communication during power failure (non-mains powered telephone and a fully charged mobile phone).

Discuss your bushfire safety plan with your neighbours and advise them of your decision to stay or go should a bushfire occur. And prepare a list of important contact phone numbers and place them on the fridge for easy access.
